Zambia Launches MeTA

Zambia launched MeTA successfully in Lusaka on 31 March 2009. Around seventy participants from all sectors - private, public and civil society - attended. National media including two TV stations and 10 journalists from print media and radio stations were present. Representatives from the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the World Health Organization and the Canadian International Development Agency also attended.
The launch started with a short play performed by a local drama group to present the areas MeTA is expected to impact on positively, such as improving access to medicines, and increasing transparency.
The launch was opened by Dr Kaonga on behalf of the Permanent Secretary & Director Planning at the Zambian Ministry of Health. A series of speeches were read on behalf of different stakeholders involved in MeTA. Dr Simpungwe, Director of Clinical Services at the Ministry of Health officially launched MeTA Zambia on behalf of the Minister of Health.
Mike Foster, the UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for DFID sent a video message to the launch attendees.
