Jordan launches MeTA

More than 200 invited guests attended the national MeTA launch in Amman, Jordan on 31 May 2009. His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr Nayef Al Fayez spoke at the event and welcomed the initiative.
The British Amabasaador, James Watt, reiterated the commitment of the UK Government to support the work of MeTA for at least 10 years, providing the intial pilot phase demonstrates real achievements. He praised the efforts already underway in Jordan and hoped that MeTA would be a complimentary undertaking.
Other speakers at the opening ceremony included Dr Taher Abu Al Samen, Chair of the Jordan MeTA Council; Dr Hashim Al Zein Mousaad, the WHO Country Representative; and Andrew Chetley, Communication and Capacity Strengthening Director of the International MeTA Secretariat.
Additional presentations were given by Dr Wilbert Bannenberg, Technical Director of the International MeTA Secretariat; Dr Rania Bader, MeTA Consultant in Jordan; Dr Maisa Al Saket, Director General of the Joint Procurement Department and chair of the National MeTa Council's Committee on Evidence-based Decision making for the Rational Drug List; Dr Lama Homoud, Director of the Ministry of Health Clinical Pharmacy Department and chair of the Commitee on Encouraging Best Practice and Improving the Rational Use of Medicine; and Dr Bader Rashid, consultant with Health Action International and representative of the Committee on Capacity Building for Civil Society Organisations in Jordan; and by MeTA Council member Dr Ibrahim Al Abbadi on the role being played by the local chapter of the International Society for Pramaco-economics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR).
