MeTA’s founding partners are:

UK Department for International Development (DFID)
DFID funds MeTA’s 30 month pilot phase (2008-10) and other funders are being sought as the project expands to more countries and continues into the future. DFID leads the British government’s fight against world poverty. It also has a special interest in access to medicines and also helps fulfil commitments made in a White Paper Making Governance Work for the Poor.

World Bank
The World Bank views good governance and anti-corruption as important to its poverty alleviation mission. Many governance and anti-corruption initiatives are taking place throughout the World Bank Group. They focus on internal organisational integrity, minimising corruption on World Bank-funded projects, and assisting countries in improving governance and controlling corruption.

World Health Organization
(WHO)
WHO provides strong technical support through its headquarters staff, regional pharmaceutical advisers, national pharmaceutical officers and country representatives in the seven MeTA countries. In addition, there is close collaboration between MeTA and WHO's Good Governance for Medicines (GGM) programme, which seeks to raise awareness of abuse in the public pharmaceutical sector and promote better practices. Its ultimate aim is to ensure that essential medicines reach people directly - not through the black market: see the GGM section on the WHO website

WHO’s Director of Medicines Policy and Standards, Hans Hogerzeil, has praised MeTA for being “a truly horizontal programme being supported by a donor – focusing on medicine registration, pricing, procurement and later we hope also on rational prescribing.” He hopes GGM and MeTA can be aligned and work together.
